Facebook Page Reviews Megan Blankenship recommends Golden Pride Retrievers January 17, 2022 We are so happy we found GPR, Gunnar is the bestest boy we could have asked for our first puppy. She also is so generous and answers any questions you have about your pup & what’s going on if needed. We can’t wait to get another! Angela Thomas recommends Golden Pride Retrievers December 20, 2019 We had a wonderful experience getting a puppy from Golden Pride Retrievers. Sonya answered all our questions and let us visit her home to see where the puppies are raised and meet her older dogs. Her facilities were very clean and she clearly cares about her pups! Her adult dogs also had fantastic temperaments - very friendly. We brought our Wally home a week ago and we couldn't be happier! He's such a sweet boy with a wonderful personality, and our vet confirmed he's healthy. We're all in love. Highly recommend! Lindsay Marie recommends Golden Pride Retrievers December 15, 201 9 Sonya is amazing-you can tell how much she cares about her pups and how hard she works to find them forever homes! We got our sweet Sue (boy) in June 2019 and he is the best dog ever!! I highly recommend Golden Pride for anyone looking to make the perfect addition to their family ☺️ Eric Bailey recommends Golden Pride Retrievers June 18, 2019 My parents recently lost both of their elderly dogs about a year apart from one another. So once they said they were ready to get a new dog, I searched Facebook and came across Golden Pride. Sonya responded so quickly and was very friendly. We actually set up a puppy visit on the same day I reached out. Her home is beautiful and you can tell the adult dogs and puppies are very well taken care of and loved. There are a lot of bad breeders out there, but Golden Pride is absolutely trustworthy and I highly recommend them! Sonya even gave my parents a little goody bag with their puppy, which included food, AKC paperwork, vet paperwork, and even a toy that the entire litter played with so it would smell like her brothers and sisters. We couldn’t have asked for a better breeder experience! Thank you Golden Pride. Ian Kolarovsky recommends Golden Pride Retrievers June 8, 2019 Golden Pride was everything we were looking for in a breeder and more. When we came to visit, all of the dogs were all so incredibly happy and were clearly a part of the family, not just a commodity in a business. Very open with information and quick to respond. She clearly cares deeply about these dogs having the best homes and the best lives. This is the place you go when you're don't just want a puppy, but you're looking for an addition to the family. Could not recommend this place any higher. We love our little guy. Alison Perkins Neff recommends Golden Pride Retrievers April 12, 2018 Thank you Sonya!! Archie is the best puppy ever! We have only had him for a couple of days. Already he slept for 6 hours at night. He seems to be very intelligent and lets us know when he needs to go out. He seems to somewhat understand "leave it", fetch, "come". He loves his crate which gives us a couple if minutes be yo attend to life. He is very playful, and so gentle with the children. Archie is very affectionate and loves to be held. We are madly in love. I appreciate all of the tender loving care you and your family have given Archie and his early stages of life. The early socialization with kids was key to his comfort with our children. I love the puppy area of your home and it is so clean without odor. I can tell you truly love the dogs! Thank you so much! Colleen Haggerty Yukevich reviewed Golden Pride Retrievers — ★★★★★ April 8, 2018 We could not be happier with our puppy Benny and our experience with Golden Pride Retrievers! Sonya is so friendly and knowledgeable, and was willing to answer any questions that we had. The “puppy suite” where the puppies were born and raised was spacious and clean, and the parents were available for us to meet and interact with. A wonderful experience all around-I highly recommend Golden Pride Retrievers! Gina Varner recommends Golden Pride Retrievers April 8, 2018 My mom (Denise), myself, along with the rest of our family- love our little girl to pieces! She is so amazing, 8 years later and it feels so good to be able to enjoy another golden retriever puppy. We adore her so much! Big thank you to Sonya for loving and caring for her little babies and preparing them for their new homes! Would recommend to anyone with a loving heart 10/10 💕 Caleb Goodwin reviewed Golden Pride Retrievers — ★★★★★ April 7, 2018 Just got home with our gorgeous little girl. Would recommend to anyone. These pups were so loved and well taken care of. Sonya definitely puts a lot of effort and love into her pups, is well educated on her pups and passes all of that knowledge onto her new pup owners. The pups parents are happy and well behaved, just overall a good situation. If she has any left don't hesitate! • Probiotics | Golden Pride

Probiotics Some families choose to keep their new puppy on probiotics for at least several months while they transition and also because they chew on every smelly, dirty, germy thing known to man! If you choose to use the same probiotic, this is what I use: (in the granule form) https://www.revivalanimal.com/product/doc-roys-gi-synbiotics/all-dog-and-cat-supplies Doc Roys GI Synbiotic: Highly palatable chicken flavored granules containing live naturally occurring microorganisms to maintain a healthy microbial balance in the dog's GI tract May be safely used in dogs of all ages and stages Contains BgMOS®, a unique ingredient to fuel the growth of good bacteria while helping to remove bad bacteria from the GI tract Recommended to minimize the potential for diarrhea and strengthen the dog's immune system Formulated to bypass the stomach acid, delivering more active bacteria to the intestine. Our pets carry good bacteria that help digestion and their immune function. You can help the gut by adding good bacteria at times when the bacteria balance is upset and the tummy has issues. DOSAGE - Give1 tsp. per day to maintain. If puppy develops diarrhea, may give 2 times per day. I sprinkle probiotics on the puppy's food right from the very beginning when they start eating puppy mush. Every single new thing I do with the puppies is stressful for them and starting on food is the first of many stressful events. Stress can cause the normal level of bad bacteria in a puppy's gut to multiply and take over the healthy bacteria which will cause diarrhea. (Exactly like with humans!) It is super common for puppies to have diarrhea when they go to their new homes because it is so stressful for them. Every single thing in their life has changed and their stress is high. Many years back as I kept going through this diarrhea phase every time I bought my own new puppies, I asked my vet if there was anything I could be doing to help. She said Probiotics! So I started feeding all of my litters probiotics and also sent some home with their new families to help keep their gut bacteria balanced during the transition. Almost every family since has reported back that they didn't have a problem or that it was only minor so I've concluded that it does in fact help and I will continue to give probiotics. THE BENEFITS OF PROBIOTICS FOR DOGS: Although intestinal microflora is important for nutrition and digestion, its most important function is helping protect the body from bad bacteria. There is a constant bacterial fight of good versus evil going on in the gut. 70% of the body's immune system is in our gut and for good reason! If the good bacteria do not win, the body may absorb bad bacteria or viruses, causing illness. Puppies are born sterile and the gut is seeded with good bacteria from mom shortly after birth. Mom's cleaning and mothering starts the transfer of good bacteria to the newborn. Nursing and cleaning by mom repeatedly adds bacteria that helps digestion and intestinal health throughout the nursing period. Healthy bacteria are constantly killed and quickly replaced in the normal gut. Stomach acid, antibiotics, or just stress from changes can upset bacterial balance in the gut. There is a constant struggle for good bacteria to keep the bad bacteria from dominating and causing illness. Some bad bacteria will get swallowed, especially with pets that like to chew, and the GI immune system must deal with them. Stomach acid will kill most of the bacteria consumed as a first line of defense. In the intestine, good bacteria form part of the mucosal barrier of the intestine and if adequate, leave bad bacteria with no room to live. After that, the immune system will have to deal with the infection, but the goal is to prevent the need for that immune response. This is where probiotics can help. Probiotics are live healthy bacteria that live in the gut. Here are some situations when a probiotic should be used: Sick or antibiotics – probiotics speed up recovery from GI upset caused by illness & antibiotic use. Weaning & transferring to solid food - Allows for a smooth and diarrhea-free transition. Changing a dog or puppy to a new environment, boarding facility, travelling, food changes, etc… anything that may upset its digestion or cause stress. Probiotics can be given when intestinal upset is occurring, even when we do not yet know the cause! Helping the tummy fight the bad bacteria is always a positive 1st step. Some think probiotics are helpful to give all the time and some think only during certain times. Talk with your vet and do your research to decide for yourself. There are probiotics that can be added to water as well as food for ease of dosing. https://www.revivalanimal.com/product/d-e-s-health-gard/all-dog-and-cat-supplies

Deposit Info If viewing on a mobile device, just click on the QR code. If viewing on a computer, scan a QR code with your camera app. Our puppies are $3,000 for limited AKC registration and are guaranteed for a full 2 years against life threatening congenital and genetic health issues. Please see our contract for specific health and genetic guarantees. How? $500 deposits will be accepted once the puppies are born, gaining weight and doing well. This is normally done at about 2 weeks old. I will be in touch with my waiting list, in order of applications received, once I am accepting deposits. Those on the list may then decide to pass until a future litter or send a deposit for the current litter. Deposits may be mailed via check or can be paid electronically via Venmo, Cash App, Zelle or PayPal. When? At the time of placing your deposit, you must choose if you want a male or female . Once contacted, your $500 deposit must be received within 24 hours or the next person in line will be given the opportunity to send theirs; thus, it will move you further down in the choosing order. This is by no means meant to rush you, it's simply because I often have many people to collect deposits from in a short period of time. So, as we approach the one week old time period, please make sure to have your final decisions made so you don't miss out! Refunds If something changes between when your deposit is placed and the puppy is picked up that may cause you to no longer want a puppy at that time, please reach out and I can work with you by refunding or transferring your deposit to a future litter. Where most breeders have non-refundable deposits, I do not! I understand that life is full of changes and surprises, and I always try to be flexible and helpful if possible!!

  • Pickup Process | Golden Pride

Pickup Process WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU ON PICK UP DAY: Towels, blankets or pee pads for the car seat or your lap in case the puppy gets car sick Paper towels Plastic bags for garbage Disinfecting wipes A crate to keep your puppy contained if you will be traveling alone A leash and collar if you have a long trip home and need to stop for potty breaks FINAL PAYMENT... SEE FINAL PAYMENT SECTION ALSO ON THIS PAGE. -Although food and water is withheld for several hours before the puppies leave, it's inevitable that some still get car sick on the way home so it's better to be prepared! Every puppy is different. Some do not throw up at all and some will 8 to 10 times until their tummy is empty. -REMINDER: Be sure to offer food and water as soon as you arrive home since it has likely been many hours since they ate or drank. VISITATION BIO-SECURITY REQUIRED: I am always very worried about what may be carried into my puppies so please wear freshly washed clothing that has not been around any other pets. Your healthy pets can still carry viruses/bacteria that they are immune to but will greatly affect a small puppy with a developing immune system. Please do not wear shoes that have recently been to dog parks, pet stores or other similar pet places. Ideally, wipe your shoes off with disinfecting wipes before visiting. As shoes are the #1 culprit for carrying germs into breeder's facilities, there is a disinfecting mat you will need to step on at the door. It is a foam mat with disinfectant in it. When you step on it a few times it creates suds which disinfects your shoes. If you prefer to just remove your shoes before entering that's fine as well, assuming you want your socks chewed on by puppies😁 Just inside the door will be hand sanitizer for you to use as well. Please please please do NOT visit if you have knowingly been anywhere that a dog has been that had parvo or if you have lost a pet to parvo. Please contact me for other puppy choosing options. https://www.revivalanimal.com/learning-center/educating-kennel-visitors-on-biosecurity PUPPY CHOOSING PROCESS: I set up 2 hour appointments in order of choosing... 1st pick male comes 1st, 2nd pick male comes 2nd, etc. I have 2 play areas for viewing and choosing: an indoor and an outdoor area. If the weather is warm enough and it's not muddy or wet, we take the puppies outside so you can watch them run and play. If you are choosing a girl, I keep the boys inside (& vice versa). I put each puppy away as you eliminate it to help make narrowing down your choice easier. If the weather is too cold, rainy or snowy, we stay in the indoor play area. Feel free to sit down on the floor in the play area and play! The floor is disinfected between each family! Do not wear your favorite outfit as puppies like to chew on your shoe laces and clothes!! They are known to accidentally snag clothes with teeth or a claw. The visitation days are very hard on puppies! They have a new family visiting every couple of hours with little rest in between. Puppies of this age still require a lot of sleep so in order to try to help them not get so worn out, I put them in a dark quiet room to rest as soon as each family has chosen. During the remainder of your visit while we talk, they can be resting up for the next family. If I don't do this, I end up with tired, upset puppies halfway through the day and then the later families do not get to see their true personalities. Some are so tired they just won't even play anymore making a family think something is wrong when really they are just exhausted. So please do not wonder why I am hiding them out of sight as soon as you choose! Once you have chosen your new family member, I have about 15 min. of take-home instructions to share with you. You are welcome to ask any questions you may have during this time or throughout your visit as well. OUR PUPPIES GO HOME WITH: AKC limited registration paper (no breeding rights) Exception: We will occasionally sell breeding rights/full registration if additional fee is paid and the breeding of our puppies is discussed and agreed upon prior to arrival. Health contract with a 2-year health guarantee Spay/Neuter contract (unless for breeding) Licensed vet check and full disclosure Vaccine and dewormer records Microchipped and information to register Early Neurological Stimulation Program (ENS) completed 3 day supply of Victor Professional All Life Stages Food New chew toy Probiotics for the first 10 days in order to help their tummy stay balanced during the transition to their new home Pedigree and parent's health testing information Lifetime customer support 😁 FINAL PAYMENT REMAINING BALANCE IS DUE IN FULL AT PICK UP! I do NOT accept personal checks on pick up day. Balance will ONLY be accepted in the form of: CASH CERTIFIED BANK CHECK (payable to Sonya Minard) MONEY ORDER (payable to Sonya Minard) The easiest for most people seems to be ordering a certified bank check on your banks website. (If that is an option for you.) I CANNOT accept electronic forms of payment such as Venmo, Cash App or PayPal for your final payment. Those can ONLY be used for the deposit.

  • Genetic Testing | Golden Pride

Genetic Testing Understanding true genetics is a very in-depth topic far and above the general population's comprehension, including mine! However, for breeding purposes, learning just the basics allows me to understand which of my adult dogs to pair in order to eliminate the traits that I do not want my adults to pass on to their puppies. There are 9 traits that can be genetically tested for in a golden retriever. Here is a very basic explanation of how I know which adults I can safely breed together: Every dog is either a "clear", a "carrier" or an "affected" for each health issue. Each puppy receives 2 copies of a gene, one from each parent. The different combinations of the 2 genes they inherit from their parents can have different outcomes. Clear means they do not even carry the health issue. Carrier means they carry the health issue but will not actually have it (its recessive). Affected means they will be affected by the health issue. In looking at the chart to the right, if the female is affected for ichthyosis (one of the tested for health issues), then she must be bred with a clear male for ichthyosis so that none of their puppies will be affected with ichthyosis. They will all be carriers, but none will be affected. Breeding for either clear or carrier puppies for any health issue is perfectly safe. I do not ever breed a litter where the puppies could potentially be affected by any given health issue. Unfortunately, there are many health issues we cannot test for but it's irresponsible breeding to not at least test for the ones we can! This is why finding a breeder who does genetic testing on their adults is critical to your puppies future health! If 2 parents are bred where genetics are unknown, then that breeder is potentially playing Russian roulette with their litters of puppies future health!! Here is a list and explanation of each of the 9 genetic health issues that can currently be tested for in golden retrievers: https://embarkvet.com/resources/genetic-health-testing-for-golden-retrievers/ Click on each of my adults photos under the "Our Goldens" tab to see the results of their genetic testing.

  • Preparing for a Puppy | Golden Pride

Preparing for a Puppy WHAT TO BUY FOR YOUR PUPPY: Crate with a divider and optional floor grid (recommended adult size is 42x28x30) I recommend a floor grid for the crate so if your puppy has an accident, you won't have a soaking wet puppy lying in pee. Crate Training Tip: Use the divider to make the crate no larger than the puppy's size. If they can go to the back to potty, they will. They are less likely to go where they hav e to lay down. ( I'll never say never, but its less likely!) Crate cover This helps them to feel less afraid if its cozy and dark, especially at night. Also being dark helps them t o know its sleep time. You could also use a towel, light blanket or sheet. Food and water dishes Slow feeder bowl HIGHLY recommended for goldens as they normally inhale their food and that can be dangerous. This type of bowl slows them down. Measuring cups These help to measure out the correct amount of daily food Lea sh & collar or harness Puppies normally weigh 8-12 lbs. at 8 weeks so I recommend getting that size and the next size up as they grow quickly. Hint: Puppies very much prefer their leash attached to a harness rather than a collar. Dog Bed Lots of chew toys! (No rawhide!) ID tags Victor Professional All Life Stages Dog Food https://amzn.to/4pgjgI8 This food is currently sold on Amazon, Chewy and Tractor Supply. Tractor Supply also carries it in store as do many pet stores. Victor's website also has a location search where you can put your zip code in and find all sellers local to you. If you plan to switch foods, please feed at least one bag of this food befo re slowly switching so that you aren't changing everything for your n ew puppy at the same time. I do not require you to feed any certain food, just please do the research and make sure it's a quality food as their diet can make a huge difference in their lifespan and health. Wire or plastic exercise pen These work well to put around the crate so if you need him/her to be in a smaller area when you can't be watching them directly, they can have a bit larger play area than just being in the crate. Small training treats Initially I use pieces of dog food as treats so as not to introduce too many new things at the same time. Once your puppy is better adjusted, slowly start giving new sources of proteins in the form of treats. Here are a few ideas for healthy training treats: https://amzn.to/3SJ9b9R https://amzn.to/482FEwb https://amzn.to/49lkcng Paper towels, disinfectant spray and an enzyme cleaner for accidents. These are a few products I recommend: https://amzn.to/3SGZPLs https://amzn.to/42qoo2G https://amzn.to/4821lfC https://amzn.to/4bj7vuT P uppy shampoo: This is what I use: https://amzn.to/3SqRLNC Ear dry for after bathing or swimming to prevent ear infections. I use: https://amzn.to/3w2CKKz Probiotics : I give all of my puppies probiotics from several weeks old until they leave for their new homes. I send home enough for the 1st week but I do recommend continui ng pro biotics through their "chewi ng on everything" puppy phase. It really helps to keep your puppy's good bacteria balanced in its tummy while it chews and licks every new germ known to man! This is what my vet and I both recommend: https://amzn.to/47VzVbv . Please see section labeled "Probiotics" under the "Education" tab for more info on probiotics. Grooming tools. A pin or s licker brush is best for puppies and I love the Furminator fo r my adults. 'No Chew Spray' can be helpful. https://amzn.to/4892oL6 Nail trimmers Toothbrush / Toot hpaste, teeth cleaning toys or crunchy bones to keep teeth free of tartar. Gates or free-standing fence if there are "off limit" areas for your puppy throughout your home. Pooper scooper and bags for walks Snuggle heartbeat pup p y - Many n ew puppy owners have shared positive feedback when using a heartbeat toy to help their new puppy stay calmer in their crate. https://amzn.to/3u8Rc3b Bells or a clicker if you're going to bell or clicker train. *****As an Amazon Associ ate I do earn from qualifying purchases when using these links. However, I do only recommend products that I personally use and honestly recommend. ***** Make Your Vet Appointments: After placing your deposit, make your vet appointments! Most vets are very busy these days and it can take quite awhile to get a new puppy appointment, especially if you are a new client. I recommend calling as soon as you know you are getting a puppy to set up your first one or two appointments. My contract states that you have 4 business days to have your puppy examined by a licensed vet in order for you to be able to return him/her for a full refund should your vet find a health issue that would cause you to no longer want that puppy. The puppies are all examined by my vet at 6 weeks old and I will let everyone know up front if there are any puppies with any issues, but I do also give you the option to have your puppy examined by your own vet if you should choose to do so. The other appointment needing made will be for when the puppy is around 10 weeks old. This appointment will be for its 2nd set of puppy vaccinations and dewormer.
